Its been and interesting last few days. And tiring. We finally got our self an apartment, so the limbo, where we were just staying on someones couch, is finally over. Apartment only has two rooms, for three people, and one of them is living room. So what they did is there is a heavy curtain separating living-room into two and the other two volunteers share the private room. Other than noise, I don’t see much difference for myself from having a totally separate room. Did the usual things, took all the pictures from the sketchbook, hanged them on to the wall. Moved furniture a around a bit and it almost feels like a livable place now. If only I could get a nice carpet and a desk for working, it would be perfect. And some decent non fluorescence lightning, because that thing is not very bright and the cold color of the light, messes up editing on the computer. There was a issue with Cameroon banks, that the accommodation finance and food allowance hasn’t come trough, because there needs to be background checks for money moving from Europe to Africa and it takes time. But we did manage to change some money, so we are finally a bit more free to spend how we want.

Also the internet has been expectedly unstable. This has hindered(a bit expected) my posting schedule. I guess it will stabilize in the next few weeks. Only chance to get online is to use mobile internet but this is limited by bandwidth. So in the office we have separate mobile box, that needs activation every day and has only around 1GB per day. But we haven’t been to the office much. Starting from Monday we are spending more time in the office, but it is for the training week and there is no time to use it. So what I have been doing is switched my mobile to local sim card and bought internet subscription. But this has even higher bandwidth limits and half the time it is not working perfectly. And although I could just order some more bandwidth when I run out, I would have to go to the main street and find a vendor who would recharge my card. And we rarely have time for this, specially that for now we are not allowed outside after six, when it is dark. This all is meaning, that although I have videos and pictures already ready, there has been no way to post them. In the next couple of days, we will be also going to visiting another city and I don’t think it will get any better. I guess I have to come up with my own solution and work out a way to optimize bandwidth usage.

Talking about not working things, my main camera is showing the signs of problems. Camera is thinking I am pressing the flash button al the time, so now there is a permanent tape on it keeping the pop up flash closed. Another similar camera, had excactly the same issue yesterday, so I guess it is do to with the weather. Lets hope it keepts itself together. Also, every time I open up my laptop, there are ants on my screen. And I wish, it would be only screen saver and not real ants.

We were visiting a wedding on Saturday, but it seemed to be more like African version of US wedding. I don’t think that helped that the wedding seemed to be for richer than average person. It seems overall, that Buea, place where we are located is what I would call Europe in Africa. It is quite similar overall. There are a lot of universities here. It seems, from outsides perspective, and I haven’t been here long, that they are having housing bubble. This explains the prices, this explains the whole city. This also means that it will end at one point, but by that time we will be long gone.

Cars are all beaten up. Only way to buy a car here is to import it from Europe, US or Asia. And Cameroon has high import tax to add to the final price, so a car that would cost around 1k-2k in Europe, can easily go for 3000 euros in here. This explains also why there are not so much spare parts and cars are driven until they really just die. Solution for that would be motorbikes and bicycles, that are cheaper, but if one is going to import something from far away, why bother with a bike when it is possible to import motorbike. Specially with local dusty and muddy roads, it explains why the motorbikes are so popular and bicycles are so rare.

Rääkides nüüd mittetöötavatest asjadest, minu peamisel kaameral esinevad mõned probleemid.
